CPB / Southbase

The Christchurch Dexion Supply Centre was contacted by CPB/Southbase to provide a storage solution for the new combined high school being constructed on the former QEII sports and recreation fields.

Three different types of storage were required:

-          Mobile shelving utilising a mechanical drive system

-          Multipurpose static shelving

-          Pallet racking

Our solution was to supply CI-80 on our mechanical drive system with each bay configured for seven levels of Codafile storage.

There are 29 mobile systems installed in a variety of sizes, these are designed to maximise the storage potential for each allocated room or space. Some of these units were requested to have built in floors which we also provide and installed.

Dexion Supply Centre provided a detailed plan for the individual units in each room for the client to confirm and approve, these drawings were also important during the installation process, providing the team with clear directions, ensuring we had the correct unit in each room in the correct position.

Longspan 2 provided to perfect solution for the static storage.

71 Bays in various lengths were required in total and these were supplied with MDF raw board shelves. They are being used for the storage of sports equipment and large volumes of teaching resources.

The pallet racking supplied was our Speedlock system, with a combination of mesh decks & MDF shelves. The racking is in an external building housing all the outdoor sports equipment & tools, the mesh decks allow wet equipment to drain freely and helps with air circulation for drying.

The installation has been a staged process working with CPB / Southbase to install each system as the rooms became available. We assembled as much as possible off site at our Christchurch warehouse and palletised each individual system. This enabled us with the flexibility to change at a moment’s notice, if these was a delay or issue, we could “pick up” another room and keep the installation moving forward.

The new schools are due to open for term two this year with a combined student roll of approx. 2400, and will feature : -

• A Performing Arts Centre with a 750-seat theatre and a second smaller 200-seat theatre

• A Cultural Space

• Four full-sized sports fields with a 400-metre running track

• Three full-sized indoor Gymnasiums – two of which can be joined to host events.

• A Café and fully-equipped commercial teaching kitchen
